POEA Online Registration System to Replace SRC

POEA Online Registration System will replace the old Seafarer’s Registration Certificate according to POEA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) issued guidelines on the registration of seafarers online in compliance with POEA Governing Board Resolution No. 13, Series of 2016.

This move started in August 2016 and changes were made to their website infrastructure to facilitate a huge number of applicants completing their registration process. It also makes the SRC or Seafarer’s Registration Certificate obsolete.

This new system is a more efficient, cost-effective, time saver and provides fewer hassles to seafarers. This is because you can access the online system anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access.

According to Cacdac, the new system is part of the government’s plan to have a Universal ID System. This new ID system will be acceptable to all government agencies and the Port States. Furthermore, it will be in compliance with ILO Convention No. 185 or the Seafarer’s Identity Document Convention.

As most of you already noticed, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) already made their move. They set mandatory requirements for all seafarers to get their Seafarer’s Registration Number or SRN.

If you want to process your COP, SIRB, COC, and licensure exams in MARINA, you need to have an SRN.

MARINA’s Seafarer’s Registration Number and POEA’s Online Registration for Seafarers are part of the database sharing campaign for the successful development of the Universal ID System. The online system will also serve as a source of valuable information on the maritime labor market for policy research and development.

Are you qualified for the new online registration?

You can do everything online without the need to go to POEA to register. Here is a quick checklist for qualifying for the Online Registration for Seafarers.

  • The registrants should be at least 18 years old (except cadets).
  • Graduate of maritime courses or any related courses applicable to maritime employment
  • With SIRB issued by MARINA, and
  • No medical or legal impediments to qualify for overseas employment.

I also made a simple and comprehensive guide on How to Create Your e-Registration Profile so you won’t get lost completing it. Just click on the link and you and you are on your way to completing your POEA Online Registration for Seafarers.

May the winds be in your favor
